DIY Flower Crown Ears

I'm sure many have you have seen photos on Instagram of people sporting flower crown ears in the parks. They seem to be the latest fad. Now, there are many shops that make amazingly beautiful flower crown ears, but like everything, they come at a price and they may not be able to come to you by the time you leave for your Disney trip. To lessen the blow to my pocket book, I decided to make my own pair of ears a few weeks ago, and it was not as hard as I thought! Here's what to do:

Materials:

-Headbands (I got some cheap ones at the grocery store)

-Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks

-Metal wire (I found wire sticks in the wreath section of my craft store)

-Fake flowers (I plucked some from my mothers spring and fall decor..shh.. and then bought a few stems at the craft store)

-Other decor (I used a fake pumpkin in my fall ears)

Step One: Making the ears.

I used a pair of Disney Parks brand Minnie ears as a model for the shape and size of my ears, but you could go by eye. I took a Nalgene water bottle and wrapped the wire around it, to train the wire into a circle shape. I then connected the wire in a circle at the best size point using hot glue, then snipped the rest of the wire using scissors.

Step Two: Attaching the ears to the headband.

Using a model, or your eye, place the metal ears on the headband where you see fit, on the table with no glue to test. Then, take hot glue and glue the metal ear to the back of the headband. This may take multiple layers of glue. Keep glueing and giving rest to dry until the ears stand firmly on their own. Do this one ear at a time. Give the ears about 5 minutes to dry before moving on to next step.

Step Three: Attaching flowers.

Arrange flowers on the top of the headband in a style you like, I usually put larger flowers in front of the ears so they sit above my own HUMAN ears, lol. Cut the fake flowers from the stem, leaving about a quarter inch of stem. On the top of the headband, place a glob of hot glue, then set the flower stem in it on it's side, so the flower lays flat on the headband and faces forward. Then, make a shell of glue on top of the flower stem to really keep it on there. Repeat with the other flowers. Let dry for 10 minutes.

Done!

I know this isn't the most professional of ways and if any of you pro flower crown ear makers are reading this in horror of how amateur this is, just know that I apologize but I've gotta save money anywhere I can haha! I found these ears to be very durable and they were great for me! Let me know on Instagram how yours turned out! Maybe one day you could look as cool as this..

JK I'm a huge nerd.

xoxo,

Emily
